Overview
Located at the southern end of the Hakuba Valley, the first area to be reached from Nagano & Tokyo, Goryu offers an affordable stay option for large groups and families.
The Goryu side of the combined Goryu & Hakuba 47 ski resorts has two separate base area villages called Kamishiro & Iimori.
Iimori village is largely residential and offers few accommodation options but does feature the Hakuba Snowsports ski school.
Kamishiro is a picturesque forest village that runs between the slopeside Escal Plaza at the base of the ski resort and Kamishiro train station next to route 148 that runs the length of the valley.
Kamishiro features a few ski in / ski out properties in its slopeside neighbourhood, such as Alpine Tenshi Villa but most are located in the peaceful forest village within a manageable short walk from the ski lifts. Some accommodations include a free shuttle service to the ski lifts.
Groups can choose one of the large self-catering properties, such as The Maple Chalet, Hakuba Mountain Chalet & Cabin or The Bear’s Den. There are also some great value mid-range Japanese hotels such as Hotel Stelle Belle & Aqua Alpine.
The Goryu area is connected to the rest of the Hakuba Valley villages and ski resorts via the Hakuba Valley shuttle bus service. To reach some of the further locations, a change of bus at Happo One may be required.

Ski Resort
Goryu & Hakuba 47 ski resorts are one combined ski hill at the Southern end of the Hakuba Valley.
These two ski resorts are quite different and complement each other such that combined they offer a good variety of piste runs, freestyle park features, a small amount of off piste tree runs and extensive backcountry terrain with good facilities at the three base stations.

The Goryu area does not offer much in the way of lively nightlife. However, the neighbouring Echoland area and Happo One village located a little further north both offer a range of great dining and nightlife options and can be reached via the limited Genki Go shuttle bus service or local taxi.
For authentic dining with the locals, head to the nearby Hakuba Town area around Hakuba Train Station.
Onsen
Located just outside Kamishiro village, 150 metres off Route 148, the Hakuba Ryojin Obuya Onsen is one of the largest onsen in the Hakuba Valley and certainly one of our favourites.
The Hotel Stelle Belle Onsen in central Kamishiro village offers the unique experience of outdoor bathing in giant reclaimed miso barells!
For bathers wanting to jump straight into the onsen after skiing, the Escal Plaza includes the Ryujin no yu onsen with separate indoor bathing for men and women.
