Overview
Kominka no yu is one of our favourite onsen in the Hakuba Valley. It prides itself as the largest hot spring in the Hakuba area, as well as being Gensen-Kake-Nagashi, meaning it’s 100% pure with no added tap water or additional heating.
Although the Onsen was only opened in 2012, it was constructed using timbers from traditional housing as old as 160 years, making you think it’s been there over a century.
Over 200 litres of mineral water is pumped up from the Mizubasho Onsen source, deep below the surrounding forest every minute and spread throughout multiple indoor and outdoor baths.
Bathing in this water is know to make your skin smooth and warm you to the core. Enjoy stunning forest and mountain views from both the indoor and outdoor baths.
Kominka no yu can be found in the grounds of Sierra Hakuba, a forest retreat resort hotel located in the Ochikura area between Iwatake and Tsugaike villages. This onsen is reachable by bus, taxi or car.
