Nozawa Onsen - Hotel & Day Use Onsen

Furusato no yu onsen

Furusato no yu

Furusato no Yu is similar to the thirteen official Soto-Yu bathhouses in style but is more spacious & modern (built in 2011) and requires an admission fee for entry.

It includes one outdoor bath and two indoor baths with different temperatures—an atsuyu (between 44 and 45 degrees Celsius) and a nuruyu (between 42 and 43 degrees Celsius)—for each gender.

Located on the slope up to Ogama, this traditional, wooden building blends in perfectly with the little town’s atmosphere and history.

Basic amenities such as soap, shampoo and shower booths, are available as well.

Sparena Outdoor Pool

SPArena

SPArena is a large hot spring facility equipped with indoor public baths, an open air hot-spring bath, warm bathing pool, saunas and restaurant.

Recommended for onsen first-timers, since the water temperatures are lower compared to Nozawa Onsen’s Soto-Yu communal bathhouses.

Indoor baths are segregated by sex, so no swimwear. Outside pools are unisex and require swimwear.

SPArena is located between the Nagasaka and Karasawa ski areas on the edge of the Nozawa onsen ski resort.

Nozawa Onsen Hotel is almost obliged by name to have an onsen, and it does not disappoint!

The hotel is known to have some of the purest waters in town with their exclusive hot spring water line. Enjoy an indoor and outdoor bath for each gender.

The therapeutic and warming waters provide the perfect retreat after a day on the slopes. Sit back and relax those sore muscles whilst watching the snow fall around you.

View Hotel Shimataya Onsen

Shimataya Onsen

inside View Hotel Shimataya

Situated on top of the hill, overlooking the surrounding greenery, sits the Nozawa onsen.

Although the onsen itself is indoors, large picture windows frame the scenery in almost every direction, offering an ideal place to unwind and take in the landscape.

The onsen is said to be one of the best in the area and, with a view like this, it’s hard to argue.

The onsen is open daily but keep in mind that it’s relatively small and may be crowded in busier times.

If you can get a spot, though, watching the sunset here over the mountainous scenery is incredible and an experience you won’t want to miss!

Tokiwaya Onsen

"Empress Komyo's 1000-Person Hot Spring" Onsen

inside Tokiwaya Ryokan

Said to be one of the largest onsens in the region, Tokiwaya’s gorgeous indoor onsens are naturally heated and mineralised, meaning they’re not only good for relaxing but also for soothing aching muscles and might even help with skin issues!

The onsens are situated indoors, surrounded by designs featuring natural materials such as rocks and timber and, of course, some traditional décor.

There’s also more than enough baths to go around, each with its own specific purpose, temperature and décor.

The onsens are open throughout the day and night, and only close for a short time in the morning for cleaning.

Note, however, that the baths are separated for men and women, but private baths can be booked in advance.

Kiriya Onsen

Kiriya Onsen

inside Kiriya Ryokan

The ryokan’s onsens are indoors and are separated by gender as well as being naturally heated and mineralised.

To ensure the high quality of the water and the enjoyment of all guests, there are a few rules regarding hygiene and the use of products in the onsen that need to be followed.

There are wash stations provided prior to your entry to the onsen, which include a range of complimentary bath products and towels.

The onsens are, though, a very relaxing and calming place. It is, in fact, considered rude to not be relaxed – so you better unwind!

The onsens are a perfect place for this, with the perfectly heated water and it’s minerals providing a soothing, rejuvenating experience for all guests.

The hotel features a relatively small yet cosy communal bath, located indoors amongst some natural materials.

Even though the bath is not the true onsen hotspring, the water is hot enough to give all guests a wonderful soothing and healing experience.

Some basic bath amenities are provided to guests to make your experience wonderful.

If the in-house communal bathtub is looking a little crowded, though, you’re ideally situated to visit some of the many other public onsens nearby.

Nozawa Onsen is famous for its flowing natural hot springs which are said to heal sore muscles, nerve and joint pains.

Take a long soak and revive your weary body after your day on the slopes.

Whilst the waters are quite hot, and you may not be able to soak for a long time, multiple baths per day is the recommended way to get the most out of the nutrient rich waters.
