Overview
If you're looking for comfortable, homey and inviting accommodation, this is the hotel for you. Mount Shiga offers guests affordable and high quality rooms as well as fantastic, friendly service, featuring all of the necessities and comforts without the price tag attached to the luxuries.
Mount Shiga is ideal for budget travellers and for those who'd rather focus on the skiing than on the hotel, and can accommodate groups as large as six in one room.
There are both Japanese and western rooms available, each boasting ensuite bathrooms, heating and comfortable bedding, as well as large deluxe rooms with fantastic views and ample light. Most rooms also feature televisions and dining or lounge spaces, too, making it easy for guests to unwind and relax.
Of course, if you'd prefer, the hotel's communal lounge is also a perfect place to relax in - it doubles as a bar and a café and offers guests cosy, comfortable seating, a large television and Wi-Fi access.
Mount Shiga's in-house restaurant offers Japanese and western dishes for breakfast and for dinner which, by all accounts, are delicious. There are also vending machines throughout the hotel and a very small convenience store on the ground floor near the lobby for guests to pick up some snacks if they'd like.
Of course, the hotel caters well to skiers, offering ski storage and drying spaces and a perfect ski-in-ski-out location on the slopes. Many rooms also offer views of the ski runs, and there's storage space in some of the rooms, too.
All guests are also able to make use of the large indoor onsen-style bath for their after-ski relaxation session, and are encouraged to spend some time relaxing and soothing their muscles.
The hotel's service, however, is apparently the highlight. The staff are incredibly helpful and there are a range of English-speaking staff available at all times. They're dedicated to ensuring you enjoy yourself, and this includes offering lifts around town and helping plan day trips, ski passes and dinner reservations throughout the region.
Not only are you sure to feel comfortable, you're sure to be treated like you would in any other high-end hotel, too.
Onsen
The hotel’s beautiful indoor bath house is ideal both for skiers looking to warm up after a long, cold day and for anyone looking to unwind and relax.
The onsens are all indoors, and there are separate pools for men and for women, each featuring beautiful stone finishings for tranquillity and large windows that allow lots of natural light to filter in.
The baths are only closed between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. for cleaning, and are open day round other than this. To top it off, the onsen also features Jacuzzi jets to complete the relaxing experience.
